Play Group

Aims

We aim to provide a Playgroup arising from the educational principles of Rudolf Steiner.
To nurture our children's senses and protect the wonder of childhood
To foster the child's imagination
To provide places where parents and children feel welcome and can meet on a regular basis to get to know each other
To support parents to network and gain information about children's development and learning in the early years.
Session Structure

Parents and caregivers come with their children, and are actively involved in the playgroups. We begin the session by making organic buns together, which we bake and have for morning tea with fruit.
There is plenty of scope for the children to play inside and outside. We use natural materials for construction of the toys: wood, shells, cotton cloths, and wool. We believe in nurturing children's senses.
Toys are as unformed as possible to allow scope for imaginative play. There is a sand pit and garden areas. We occasionally have a seasonal art or craft activity.
The morning has a rhythm of coming together during group activities, making buns, morning tea, singing circle and story telling time, interspersed with times of free play.
There is a balance between structured times and unstructured times in the morning rhythm which provides children with a sense of familiarity, safety and security.
Parent contributions

Our Playgroup receives very little government funding so we ask patents to pay a small donation towards the running costs of the Play group and also be willing to assist with fundraising activities.

Guidelines

For the positive nurturing of the children in our care:
The group is run cooperatively and each parent or caregiver is responsible for the children they bring.
Your input with the children is valuable. Children learn best when adults take an interest in their play. Do bring ideas for play experiences if you can.
Dress children in practical play clothes suitable for the weather conditions.
Positive behaviour management techniques are used. For example:
We supervise children and be ready to step in before problems arise.
We help children to resolve conflict positively We redirect to a more acceptable activity if necessary
We help children to express their feelings verbally.

Our Playgroup premises are a smoke free area.
